Frances Savage Ceramics
Frances Savage is a slipware potter based at the Manchester Ceramics Collective. Frances trained in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the Potteries, and Tuscany. Crafting generous forms using terracotta clay, her pieces are decorated with a distinctive scalloped slip pattern in a palette of black, cream and honey.
Milk jug hand-thrown by Frances Savage for TOAST. Made from terracotta clay, dipped in glaze, then patterned by hand with dashes that reflect the hands of the maker and reveal the terracotta beneath. Based at the Manchester Ceramics Collective, Frances trained in Stoke-on-Trent, known for its ceramics history, and Tuscany. Each varies slightly in shape, pattern and colour.

Each ceramic piece has been thrown or pressed and glazed by hand. Due to the handmade nature, there may be pleasing variations and irregularities in colour, size and shape.

Crafting Friendly Forms with Potter Frances Savage
Manchester-based potter Frances Savage trained in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the potteries, and Tuscany. For the Spring Summer 2024 collection, Outdoor Pursuits, Frances has hand-thrown three pieces exclusively for TOAST. Her distinctive decorative style, created using a slip trailer, is simple and illustrative. Her rich palette of black, cream and honey complements the warmth of the red terracotta clay.
“I’ve always been drawn to these colours,” Frances says. “Honey glazes have historically been used in pottery because it’s a simple recipe made of local clay and a melting agent. I like to think that I’m nodding to the tradition when I slip my pots,” she says.
