Egle Silko Jewellery

Based in Estonia, jewellery maker Egle Silko creates textural pieces guided by her chosen metal, sterling silver. Her necklaces, rings and earrings carry intentional cracks and irregular surfaces, achieved through reticulation and freehand melting techniques.

A sterling silver ring, crafted by New Maker Egle Silko. Molten metal is sculpted by hand into an organic shape, inspired by clusters of lichen. Each ring carries subtle variations, with tool indentations left visible as marks of the making process.

Based in Tallinn, Estonia, Egle draws inspiration from natural Nordic landscapes and the inherent fluidity of her material. She uses reticulation and freehand melting techniques to form distinctive textures.

This item is part of our New Makers programme. In its eighth year, five makers demonstrating excellence in skill, originality and craftsmanship have been chosen by a TOAST panel. We offer a platform to sell their pieces as well as mentoring until the end of this year, with full profits being returned to them.

If you place an order today, it will be made for you and then sent to you directly from Estonia. Delivery, import duties and local sales tax are included in the price.

Shaping Silver

By the time Egle Silko chose to devote her creativity to sterling silver, she had already explored a wide range of crafts and knew this medium offered something special. “Metal as a material is really fascinating. It goes from liquid to soft to hard, allowing you to shape it in so many ways.”

The textures of Egle’s pieces are shaped using a range of techniques, including reticulation. She heats metal until it begins to bubble, stopping when she’s satisfied with the arrangement of grooves and ripples.

For the most part, Egle draws creative inspiration from the qualities and responses of silver. “The majority of my ideas come from working with the metal itself. It's more like a collaboration.”
