Christmas windows

To celebrate the festive season this year, the window displays in our shops have been created by Paula Ellis, our Visual Merchandising Manager. The installations are inspired by the theme Creative Traditions, exploring festive rituals through making, using what is close to hand.

By weaving honeysuckle vine and rosehip branches, she has created a tree structure. It has been adorned with recycled glass baubles and ribbons, which she coloured using an array of natural dyes including turmeric, marigold, madder root and hibiscus.

Paula has also made a suspended structure from branches bound together with rope and rosehips. Suspended from wire are bell-like seed pods, oyster shells left over from restaurants – “the pearlescent surface catches the reflection of the lights,” – and dried chillies, a last-minute addition. “A member of our team told me about how they are believed to offer good luck, which I loved,” she explains.

I look forward to seeing the toast Christmas window displays each year in the York shop. They are very inspiring using natural elements. Well done.
